III.D.1 Innovator PCP / PPI Instruments & Process familiarization

Objective

To get familiar with the PCP and PPI instruments and understand how they can help you bring your innovation to market. Use this step to clarify the process, reduce uncertainty, and see real examples of innovators who have successfully used PCP and PPI to scale their solutions and reach new markets.

Note that these instruments serve to get data and evidence on the innovative solutions in a holistic way, also to inform on the key elements for innovation adoption, business model and  reimbursement strategies. But this is NOT and instrument to finance full clinical trials.

  • PCP: Procurement of R&D services and prototype testing.
  • PPI: Procurement of innovative solutions with full certified products

Who is Involved

  • Innovation / Business Development Lead: Builds internal understanding of PCP and PPI instruments, analyzes how they support technology maturation and market entry, and translates lessons from successful cases into structured guidance that reduces uncertainty and enables proactive engagement.

Activities / Tasks

III.D.1.1. Clarify PCP & PPI process and requirements:

  • Study key guidance and resources, including HIPAT to clarify the multi-phase structure of PCP (solution design, prototyping, and testing) and the procurement cycle of PPI (commercial deployment).
  • Explore case studies and success stories published on the EU Innovation Procurement Platform or national innovation procurement portals.

III.D.1.2. Attend information and training events:

  • Participate in webinars, workshops or info days organized by the European Commission, national / regional agencias, healthscience accelerators or PC / PPI project consortia

 

III.D.1.3. Engage with existing PCP/PPI Projects and learn from peer innovators:

  • Identify active or completed projects relevant to your technology area (via CORDIS or project websites).
  • Review testimonials and lessons from SMEs or start-ups that successfully used PCP/PPI to validate or scale their health solutions.

Develop clear, engaging materials that explain PCP/PPI benefits and provide simple, practical guidance to align internal stakeholders.
